- Start imagining the wedding
- Decide on the budget
- Define what kind of huppah you want, long and symbolic or short and sentimental
- Define whether you want to include all traditions and rituals or just the lightest ones
- Think about the date of wedding
Remember that according to Orthodox Judaism the wedding is forbidden from the sundown of Friday till the sundown of Saturday, on such holy days like Yom Kippur and Rosh-Hashanah and the period between Passover and Shavuot except the Lag-ba-Omer day
Whether it will be a synagogue or secular place, indoor or outdoor
- Decide whether you want kosher or light kosher meal or other kosher-style
- Start looking for vendors
Look for musicians, caterers, photographer, etc. Make appointments to look at their previous work
- Decide what kind of music do you want
- Clear up your musicians repertoire in accordance with your wishes
Define whether they play 'Hava Nagila' and other classic Jewish songs
- Start choosing the rabbi who will suit you
9-11 Months Before
Discuss the structure and your requirements of the weeding, what elements of Jewish traditions you want to include, etc
- Clear up any dress requirements for bride and groom
- Start creating a guest list
- Start creating a request list from your parents
6-8 Months Before
- Decide what kind of Ketubah you want
- Look for the Ketubah artist if you want it to be specially designed
- Prepare Ketubah text, consult with your rabbi, if necessary
- Start selecting the gown
- Finalize your list of guests
- Book the band, calligrapher and other vendors
3-4 Months Before
- Decide who will held huppah
- Choose the witnesses
- Decide who will sign Ketubah and do special performances
- Choose the person who will make blessing over the Challah and read seven wedding blessings
- Choose and buy wedding rings
Remember that the rings shouldn't have any hallmarks or stones
- Decide what kind of huppah you want
- Clear up if your synagogue has what you want
- Define whether you have tallis
- Book the site for pre-wedding dinner
- Remember that the rabbis are often against the rehearsal of huppah
- Think about the wording of invitations
- Order the invitations
2 Months Before
You can order that your names and Hebrew date of wedding were printed on yarmulkes
- Learn the Hebrew blessings
- Order ceremony programs in order that non-Jewish guests understand the meaning of events
- Book a baker
- Order the rental equipment
- Book the hotel for wedding night
- Plan your honeymoon
- Buy all required clothes
6 Weeks Before
- Make arrangements for Mikvah
- Plan a small party after the Mikvah
- Send wedding invitations to your guests
- Send thank you notes for received gifts
- Order wine and other liquor
- Invite your friends to read something if you want
3-4 Weeks Before
- Get Tay-Sachs test if required
- Arrange a final meeting with your rabbi
- Finalize all ceremony details
- Make sure everyone understands his/her role in ceremony
- Practice your Hebrew prayers spelling and writing of your names
- Send invitations for pre-wedding dinner
- Plan sheva berachot schedule
- Get marriage license
- Plan the wedding day timing
1-2 Weeks Before
- Remind caterer to buy challah and wine
- Touch base with your rabbi
- Print out wedding booklets
- Confirm all providers
Day Before
- Bring props and entrust it to a reliable person
- Go to Mikvah
