  1.  Define Core Skills and Competencies Required.

  2. Write a Job Description.
    • Title of your new position
    • Department name (Sales)
    • Reporting rules (whom your new sales rep should directly report to)
    • Overall responsibility
    • A list of daily duties and tasks
    • Employment terms and benefits
    • Qualifications
  3. Prepare an Employment Contract.
    • Specify terms of employment, including the start and finish date, probation period, fees, wages, penalties, benefits, areas of responsibilities, common duties.
    • Use only clear and unambiguous expressions in the contract to avoid any confusion in the future.
    • Add a clause describing prohibition of sharing sales-related information and trade secrets.
    • Describe a punishment (such as immediate termination, possible lawsuit) in case the prohibition is violated.
    • List other prohibited and counterproductive actions.
    • Include the phrase "I understand and agree…" in the end of the employment contract to state that your candidate has read the content and agrees on the listed terms and conditions.
    • Add a line for signature.
  4. Interview Candidates.
    • Create a candidate evaluation spreadsheet that includes:
      • Interviewer name
      • Candidate name
      • Date of interviewing
      • Evaluation criteria (Poor, Fair, Average, Good, Superior)
      • Characteristics
      • Skills and Competencies
      • Define date and time of interviews.
      • Take the job description and list of skills and competencies with you for interviewing.
      • Make marks and records in the spreadsheet during interviews.
      • Select those candidates having the best rates (Good and Superior).
      • Consider conducting additional interviews of the selected candidates if you can’t employ all of them.
