I am leading a software test department & sending them automatic emails using VIP team todo.
However I do not want the "FINAL" (actual) due date to appear on their emails -instead I need a date before then to be used as the delivery date to allow a factor of safety -and motivation.
How can I achieve this in Team todo?
It is the only remaining feature in this software missing for me -and the full blown task manager software would be overkill for my needs (I think it has an additional "finish date" field that can be used.
Is there any way this can be accomplished in team todo?
just downloaded the eval vip simple to do list....like it a lot. looking for a way to get off outlook and think that this might do the trick for task management. However, the mouse middle scroll wheel doesn't work in the program. It is a hassle to locate the scroll bar all the time. I have 250 tasks in about 20 categories so would use the scroll a lot. Is there any known fix/tweak?

Thanks, Brad
Message:
I've thought quite a lot over the years about what the ideal task manager would be like, and VIP Organizer comes pretty close. One thing though that I had decided was that there was no fundamental difference between a Task and a Category. VIP Organizer seems to treat these things as different. I find I often start a project by creating a task (e.g. "decorate the lounge"), but then I find I want to split it into sub-tasks (such as "select a decorator", "get quotes", "choose colours", "buy materials" etc.). Later even these may need to be further sub-divided. VIP Organizer doesn't seem to make this easy, or am I missing something?

Thanks - Rowan
I've lost all my panes or toolbars apart from the list of tasks. In particular I've lost the category bar. How do I get it back? I can't find anything in the menus, nor in the help file to explain this. Also I don't understand what the close, pin (anchor) and other buttons in the top right hand corner of these panes do. I was experimenting with these when I lost the panes and found I couldn't get them back.

Thanks for your help - Rowan
I created several tasks and closed them. I found that the tasks were deleted from "VIP Team ToDo List", v 2.9.1.

How can I keep those closed tasks? (I often need to account for my time and destroying the completed Tasks destroys the very history I need to keep.)

TIA,

Bill
I'm new to VIP To Do List and wonder if it has a "stopwatch" or time-tracker feature.

For example, suppose I start a Task today, work on it for 20 minutes, move on to another task, and then go back to the original task for another 30 minutes. Can VIP show that, today, I spent 50 (= 20 + 30) minutes on that task? And, if I spend an hour on that task the next day it should show 110 minutes (=60+50). The time will continue to accumulate until I press a Task "Reset timer" button.

TIA,

Bill

Can I have Taskmanager pro on our server for office team to use and on my laptop so I can carry all current projects with me while out of office. This would allow me to see projects while on road without remote access to server even thoug they would only be as up to date as my last restore. When I return then update or restore the current server database and project status to my laptop files. Then logon to server with laptop to use as a user on server database on days I am in office.
Just downloaded and trying VIP Organizer. It looks as if it's got pretty well all the features I need, but I've got a huge number of tasks currently in Excel that I'd like to import. Can I do this? How do I have to format the Excel or CSV file so it will correctly import new tasks from file? In particular what do I have to put in the ID field, or is there a way of leaving this blank, for a new task, and having VIP Organizer create an ID on import?

Thanks - Rowan
Message:
Hello,

I've done quite a bit of searching to find the right software to meet our needs and finally came across VIP Team To Do List. It is close to being perfect for what we need.

The only drawback that I can see is that it will not allow simultaneous access. Our non-profit association is small (2 employees to be exact!). I would like to be able to share the database simultaneously with my assistant. I know that VIP Task Manager has this functionality built in but to be quite honest, it is overkill for what we need. I have trialed both programs. I like the simplicity and features available in VIP Team To Do List and do not wish to use something more complicated.

I would be willing to pay more for the software to have this one extra feature built in. Is this something that you would consider?

I am currently using the trial version and wish to make a purchase in the very near future.

Look forward to your response!

Many Thanks - Bianca
I am evaluating your product. It covers all my needs except two. for every todo item, I do a detailed follow-up of its progress. I do this by adding text to comment on a regular basis. example:

task: arrange appointment with plumber
comment:
16/12 17:00 called him. no answer
17/12 12:00 his wife answers. left a message
18/12 08:30 called back since he didn't answer. arranged appointment for next friday

To do his I have to add the timestamp (date and time) manually each time. It would be very helpful to have an automatic timestamp.

Secondly, I'd like to have a shortcut key to save a comment (f.e. ctrl-enter) in order to avoid having to click on the save icon.

Saw that someone had requested task templates in 2006. Just new to VIP organizer and it fits my work well...It would be great to have the ability to create task templates so I don't have to copy and paste the same set of tasks for every category I open.. I am now doing it the long way -- created a category with calls TASKS and i copy and paste this set each and every time to every file I open.

Maybe someone has an easier way of doing this?!

Would also be great if rows/tasks can be color coded or font colors change when it is completed (as an alternative to being struck out).

thanks!

- rachel
When categories are group, it would be nice to have the category titles in bold so the group heading stands out better.
My other request:

I have problems to see how much time will all the tasks last for today and the other days. This is critical to keep the schedule realistic while recheduling my tasks.

I have to set "filter by due date" (in the future: "filter by from date" - see my previous post) to enter the date and then I have it - the "estimated time" summary shows the overall time. But let's switch to see the overall time for some other days - it requires much too many clicks.

Possible solutions:

1) In the group header (or footer), add the summary for estimated time. I'll then group by due date / from date and see the sums more easily

OR

2) While filtering by due date, left / right arrow should go to the previous / next day. THe overall time for each day is already visible in the "estimated time" summary.

All the best,
Grzegorz
Message:
I'm evaluating VIP Organizer and find it really powerful.

Please add (optional) "from" date to the task. Many much less poweful schedulers have "from" date. This is something different than due date:

Due date is a date on which a task must be finally accomplished. From date is a date on my calendar where the task appears. Before the from date, I do not need to think about the task. Ideally, I accomplish my tasks on from date, but when I have problems with my schedule, I move from date to tomorrow and so on, but I know that due date is the final day on which the task has to be accomplished.

Adding from date would make the schedule much more flexible. While grouping or filtering by from date I would immediately see what are the tasks planned for today (and the other days), and which tasks may be moved later, when I have problems (the "days left" column)

All the best to the VIP team and users

Grzegorz
Message:
I've been using VIP Organizer/Team To Do for almost 2 years now and I really love it. One thing, though, that I wish you would bring back is the calendar that used to be displayed in the filter area.

The newer filter bar, while being an improvement over the old way of filtering, is completely missing the calendar. When I want to see if I have something on a particular day of the week, I need to bring up the calendar from the "Due Date" section inside a task. I'd like to have the calendar right there on the filters bar (or somewhere) so it's in plain view - that way I can see what days of the week each of my tasks are due.

Thanks and keep up the great work.

-- Misha

Are there any plans for VIP Task Manager Professional to use Microsoft SQL Server as it's database? Our company uses Oracle and MS SQL databaseservers and we don't won't to bring in an other database. I think this is an issue in most companies.

Regards,

Geert
